Monday, May 2: Field trip one afternoon: visit the fortress Sourami where students offer us a small tour of song and dance. We stop on the way to the fountain of “iron water” to fill our water bottles. What follows is a forest-picking outing with instructions to collect the maximum of different plant and animal species.

Back in the classroom, we sort the collected items, constitute a small terrarium with animals picked up and put in water buds and other plants for further observations. The language learning are rooted in communication situations related to the experience. It is also to identify and develop language skills in children. Say, read, write, listen to understand.

Tuesday, May 3: In French, Ritual date and presentation of the work day to the table. We start with a “What’s New! “What we did the day before especially during 30 minutes. We note the vocabulary table. Then we ask the children to write down a few words or sentences about this event.

We wish indeed from a common experience in a familiar environment as a basis for evaluating their oral and written expression. But we then observe the great difficulty for them to express themselves in writing in French, as in mastering the graphic gesture in the knowledge of vocabulary and syntax. However, we are pleasantly surprised by their attention, their active participation, their high expectations and mobilization.

This has earned us throughout the week to work happily with motivated kids and learning into the fun. We then began the work of a picture book development: we offer children the support of photos of the visit of Sourami and books (documentary “nature”, dictionaries or fiction on the theme of nature).

The children began by reading the pictures, “read images” with instructions identifying the maximum possible elements in Georgian, then look for the French translations in the works with the help if needed, the table our common vocabulary, documents made available or adults present. We end this session with a gift Tale (Tears of the first orphan of the world). Experiments work in pairs, emergence of a reading practice where words belong to a thought and lived event.
